Overview
Harriet Beinfield is a founder and co-director (with Efrem Korngold) of Chinese Medicine Works, a clinic in San Francisco, California that offers acupuncture, herbal medicine, and nutritional counseling and also serves as a full service traditional Chinese pharmacy. Together Harriet Beinfield and Efrem Korngold have pioneered the practice of Chinese medicine in America for more than 30 years as authors, educators, and practitioners. They are the co-authors of the best-selling book, Between Heaven and Earth (Ballantine 1991). Harriet began her studies at the College of Traditional Acupuncture in England in 1972 and has lectured widely at Andrew Weil’s Integrative Medicine Fellowship at the University of Arizona, at UCSF Medical Center, at Beth Israel Hospital in New York, as well as in Canada, Cuba, and Europe. She is also on the faculty of the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and on the Advisory Board of the UCSF Medical Center’s Osher Center for Integrative Medicine, Explore, and Natural Health Magazine. Harriet Beinfield and Efrem Korngold have also written extensively about Chinese Medicine and Cancer Care. In 1997, Harriet Beinfield received the prestigious Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine Award for Clinical Scholarship for an article she co-authored with her father, breast surgeon and Yale faculty member Malcolm Beinfield, entitled Revisiting Accepted Wisdom in the Management of Breast Cancer.

Chinese Medicine Works offers caring and effective acupuncture, herbal medicine, and nutritional counseling for a wide variety of conditions. Chinese Medicine Works is also a full service Chinese traditional medicine pharmacy serving walk-in folks seeking herbal remedies. With partner Efrem Korngold, Beinfield has formulated a number of popular Chinese herbal formulas, including a set of pediatric formulas called Gentle Warriors, as well as Chinese Modular Solutions and Sage Solutions, that offer impressive, simplified solutions to a host of common problems.
