Overview
Nigerian-born Ifeoma Ikenze, MD, is a practitioner and national advocate for homeopathy. Dr. Ikenze began her career as an allopathic (western) doctor and made the transition to homeopathic remedies after studying the teachings of Samuel Hahnemann, an 18th-century German physician who is the founder of modern homeopathy. Dr. Hahnemann believed that medical problems could be relieved by taking tiny doses of the natural substance that actually caused symptoms and he began extensive experiments on the curative properties of a wide variety of ingredients from the natural world.
Homeopathy is extremely popular in Europe and is increasingly gaining popularity here in the U.S. Dr. Ikenze's own research and personal successes with homeopathic practices led to her to become certified as a homeopathic practitioner, although her perspective as a licensed MD gives her a balanced and knowledgeable approach to medicine.
Dr. Ikenze is the founder and director of the Elizabeth Center in San Anselmo, California. She has written numerous articles and books, including Menopause & Homeopathy: A Guide for Women in Midlife
Practice
Dr. Ikenze’s practice makes use of the homeopathic pharmacopoeia, which consists of more than two thousand five hundred remedies derived from plants, animals, and inorganic ingredients, all stringently regulated in the U.S. by the Food and Drug Administration. A critical part of her practice is to learn everything possible about the patient, that is, a physical history as well as an emotional biography, and then to identify those natural substances that are appropriate for the patient’s unique case. Dr. Ikenze treats people of both genders and of all ages for a wide variety of disorders both physical and emotional with homeopathy.
A strong element of Dr. Ikenze's practice is pediatrics, where homeopathy is especially helpful in strengthening the immune systems of children. Pediatric homeopathy is popular with parents seeking treatment for conditions that would otherwise (in western medicine) require their children to take medications that can cause unwanted side-effects. For example, pediatric homeopathy can treat recurrent ear infections without resorting to repeated bouts of antibiotics, and eczema without requiring a child to take steroidal medications such as hydrocortisone and. prednisone
Expertise

Philosophy
Dr. Ikenze believes in the homeopathic philosophy that there are no remedies for diseases, but rather remedies for individuals. Sickness is manifested in the totality of a person, so whenever a person is sick, the mind, body and emotions are all affected and may also be implicated as causes. Therefore, any illness, no matter what it is, manifests itself in every part of a person: mental, emotional and physical and also in practically every organ system. This is a fundamental element of the homeopathic approach and this differentiates it from the allopathic approach, which tends to focus on specific conditions, rather than on the whole person.
In homeopathic practice, each person is believed to have an intrinsic intelligence within the body called the vital force that works to heal itself. Part of the homeopathic philosophy is that whenever there is disorder in a person, it is due to an imbalance or disruption of the vital force. Since nature is a complete system and all the elements within it, including humans, animals, trees, etc. are part of this system, then within nature there already exist the remedies to correct any disorder.
When Dr. Ikenze treats a patient, she always conducts a preliminary interview to determine what other factors in a person's life are contributing to or causing his or her ailments. After this analysis, she can begin to treat the patient with homeopathic remedies tailored to a patient's specific situation.
Passion
I love having a practice where I can take the time to get to know people and help them discover what really works for them and their health issues. What I've found in my practice is that the majority of children we've treated with homeopathic remedies are completely off all antibiotics, yet they are no longer subject to recurrent infections. People might ask how that can be possible, and I tell them it's possible because the children are here to prove that it's possible.
