It's Only Natural: What's in a Name?

By Justin | Jan. 14, 2008 | 2 Comments|post a comment

What's in a name, if the name is "natural"?

Plenty, to the rushed consumer grabbing a box off the grocery shelf. For that person, the words "natural" and "all natural" probably mean they are eating something healthy. Well, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration sees things differently. The FDA, which regulates the labeling of all foods and beverages except meat and poultry, has no formal definition for natural or all-natural. Last week, the FDA confirmed, it has no plans to create one any time soon.

For Florida's sugar industry, which uses both terms, that's not good...

Organic on a Budget...Impossible Task on Food Stamps

By Justin | Jun. 27, 2007 | 0 Comments|post a comment

I read recently about a few members of Congress who are attempting to subsist on $21 a week, the average amount a food stamp recipient receives.  Fortunately my food budget is higher than that but it doesn't mean that I don't struggle to eat organic and healthy at affordable rates.

Back to Congress....Reps. Jim McGovern, D-Mass., and Jo Ann Emerson, R-Mo. are putting their money where their mouths are. They are co-sponsors of legislation that would add $4 billion annually to the $33 billion food stamp program that feeds 26 million low-income Americans -- challenged their colleagues to join them in trying to eat for just $1 a meal.

The bottom line from this experiment:  No organic foods, no fresh vegetables. They alll concluded that it is next to impossible to make healthy choices on a food stamp diet.

According to new study sleep people with sleep disorders might also suffer from abnormal sexual behaviour.

The report by psychiatrists at the Minnesota Regional Sleep Disorders Center in Minneapolis suggests that a wide range of sleep disorders are associated with a tendency to perform numerous sexual behaviours while in a state between sleep and wakefulness.

The researchers call such behaviors Sexsomnias, and believe that some chronic insomniacs also exhibit signs of a surge in libido and "compulsive sexual behaviours".

It's 3am and I've been staring at my alarm clock for hours. Well, I'm now taking some action. I just took a tincture of Valerian and California Poppy. It will take about 45 minutes before I feel anything, but I know it will work.

Other remedies include 5 HTP as well as Passionflower and Jamican Dogwood. I've used Melatonin and Magensium as well.

Hey, if you also are a night walker, I'd like to hear what works or doesn't for you...I'm usually up and online in the middle of the night. Email me and we can talk. Yeah, I know there's always the other stuff that's a favorite of night owls, but that gives me wierd dreams, mon...
