The Finish Line

By Organic Mom | Nov. 24, 2007 | 2 Comments|post a comment

A journey starts with one step and relating a healthy life style begins a birth. I have never been competitive though I am athletic. So, when I haul my boys, 8 and 10, out for hikes, rowing, swimming, tennis and the play ground I am passing on my life long habits. All the things I enjoy are free and can be done for a life time. I leave the organized sports to my competive husband.

Just Say No

By Organic Mom | Nov. 21, 2007 | 3 Comments|post a comment

I was at a formal gather with kids and families as the discussion turned to fast food. Intelligent, educated loving parents said," Yea, some times Joey will only eat McDonald's." They continue to lament how much they hated the "Happy Meal". As my youngest son walked by I asked him to tell the crowd of adults how many times he ate a McDonald's in the last year. He made a face that said Duh only an eight year old could make and said maybe once. He did not eat there because from a young age we told him how bad the food was for his body. And even when the advertisement's call out to him with the latest toy (cause it ain't the food in the Happy Meal he wants) he opted out. I made a deal to give money for a real toy. This is the boy that sings "McDonald's, I'm hating it."

Bulk Shopping Drops Waste

By Organic Mom | Nov. 19, 2007 | 3 Comments|post a comment

A few years ago I drop our garbage can size down to the smallest size possible. We usually sent it out half full so I thought lets get rid of the big one. Since that time we have bought more foods in bulk from shops like Sun Harvest and the farmers markets. The best thing besides great food, is you don't have the bulky marketing packaging, and pretty boxes we don't need.

Main Stream

By Organic Mom | May. 24, 2007 | 1 Comment|post a comment

I've finally become main stream. My house is chemical free. We pluck bugs out of the garden and my kids have a release program, don't ask. My foundest days are spent with crab grass and a shovel. I hang cloths out to dry and enjoy the gentle breeze.

We've been semi veggies for the past ten years. Semi means not vegan and every now and than we'll eat meat. We are just about totally organic at this point. I made the final jump recently. Found a company that will ship organic products: my shampoo, and cosmetics to my door, livinggoodorganics.com. I figure if I travel around town to find healthy food I may as well put organic products on my skin, in my hair and in my mouth. Look around your house and see how many things are in product you use that are posoinous. Check out this toxic ingredient directory.
