“If I was going to pick three ways that people can become more environmentally responsible in their transportation:
“First, I would say to stay out of a car when you can.
“I ride my bicycle most places, even in hilly San Francisco. I have a bicycle and a battery-assisted bicycle, because it’s a little known fact that the older you get, the bigger the hills get. Ride a bike, take the bus, take the train – any of that. Walk when you can.
“Number two: If you must drive, drive the most efficient, cleanest car that you can.
“And there are choices out there. There are even choices you don’t know about, if you look around. There are electric vehicles out there, there are some biodiesel options. You can choose. You don’t have to pick any old car.
“And number three: Try and build the whole framework of your life into going green.
“When you put solar panels on your home, it’s a natural thing to get an electric car. When you live close to work, it’s a natural thing not to have to drive as much.
“ Think big picture and the details will take care of themselves.”
