Chemical Free Mulching with newspaper

By greenlivinglady | May. 25, 2007 | 2 Comments|post a comment
A great way to recycle your newspaper and prevent weeds from taking over your garden...Lay approximately 10 sheets of newspaper down around the plants in your garden and cover with your favorite mulch (I use natural cedar mulch). If you don't live in a drought stricken area, you may want to water the mulch to help hold it down. Works great!

Great Idea

I've heard that people use newspaper for worm farms (as bedding and to hold moisture), but never thought of this use. I'm assuming that you shouldn't use color print newspaper because of the chemicals used for the ink though, right?

toxins in newspaper ink?

I was just wondering whether you have any concern about the newspaper ink leaching into the soil?
