The Effects of Bottled Water - What's the Deal?

Gardening

The most common question we get asked is about the effects of bottled water. Here's the skinny: plastic is bad, and no amount of convenience can justify that. Americans add over 30 million plastic water bottles to our nation's landfills everyday.

In addition, plastic can be harmful to our health, which multiplies the negative effects of bottled water since we're consuming it at such a high rate. According to our friends at Idealbite:

"Polycarbonate plastic (made by Nalgene and other companies) leaches bisphenol-A, a chemical linked to increased risk of birth defects, miscarriage and prostate cancer. Scratches in the plastic, harsh detergents and boiling liquids exacerbate the leaching."

What's The Alternative?

At the end of the day, it's better to buy yourself a reusable non-plastic bottle so you can avoid the nasty effects of bottled water. Our top picks - Kleen Kanteen stainless steel bottles and Sigg for an eco-personal touch!

In short, the effects of bottled water should really make us think about what we're putting into our bodies.

Easy

Easy is not good for us or the environment. We always need to look deeper and think. badartworld.com

Green Considerations

When I was researching how I would get fresh water into my home, I also considered the environmental effects of bottled water. I am refering to the shipping of the water and the usage of fossil fuels and increased air pollution. I decided to use a reverse osmosis water filter for my home. I do also drink my water out of glass containers. There are many other types of filters out there that can give us a great alternative to bottled water.

Need more

This would be much more informative if it said something about the fact that the water in the bottles is often not really all that clean - its sometimes better to have tap water than that stuff! Also, leaving those bottles in the sun is a big toxic risk (what do people do at the beach and pool with their Evian - you guessed it).
