Fertility and Body Image: A Connection?

By consciousconception | Jun. 18, 2007 | 0 Comments|post a comment
I work with an acupuncurist who offered me this connection (and I would not have guessed) between body-image and pregnancy; but now that she said it it makes much sense. After all, a woman who has fears of becoming fat may subconsciously be sabotoging her pregnancy through her intention, and yet her conscious mind does want a child.

This can be a very common theme also with women with past bulemic and anorexic issues, or those who work out alot. They may not even know it. Women who exercise a lot are already lowering their hormonal levels to become pregnant, and if a Doc tells them to slow it down, fear and anxiety can arise (how is my body going to look, then?), and still, they may experience infertility based up on the effect these emotions have on the body. (My first blog addresses this in greater detail.)

These types of common issues we as women have but have been hiding now must be brought to the light and cleaned out of we are to make room for the little one. I work with these issues commonly in my practice, and it amazes me the progress that can come when healing occurs. But we don't heal if we are not willing to look at ourselves. The surprise is, there is found a gem; that there is yet more to love that was once locked away and perceived as "bad" and once brought to the light and sung to, it transforms and dissolves. Therein lies the miracle.

Sometimes it can be that quick.
