The Effectiveness of Vitamins & Supplements

Supplement VitaminsMany vitamin deficiency ailments such as beriberi, scurvy, and rickets require supplementation with vitamins and minerals, but some people question whether a healthy person truly needs supplemental vitamins and herbs.

Supplements will never take the place of eating well, but they are essential for the proper functioning of the human body and an important component of wellness. Nutrient depletion, toxins in our environment, and the stress of modern life all combine to make nutritional and herbal supplements an important component of sustained wellness.

Consider that the nutrient density of food is less that it used to be. From corn, to wheat, to turkey, to eggs, the vitamin and nutrient content has decreased as a result of the decreased soil nutrients in conventionally grown crops.

In addition to poorer food, over 2,000 new synthetic chemicals are created every year, penetrating processed foods, household solvents, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and cleansers, and they eventually find their way into our bloodstreams. Body systems that deal with detoxification are heavily dependent on trace nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and essential amino acids to rid our bodies of impurities.

The high-paced stress of urban living also means that we don’t absorb nutrients as well as we should, furthering our need for the right chemical balance that supplements can provide to stay healthy and alert.

Very interesting

I've always wondered what the benefits/harms of supplementing are. This is all great info, and now I'm able to make more educated decisions about my body.
