You must be the change you want to see in the world - Mahatma Gandhi

Relationships and cooperative action can effect our environment. For instance you don’t have to like somebody, you just have to be nice to improve your environment.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

Reducing, reusing and recycling can have a big impact on our environment. Determine if you really "need" an item before you purchase it and this will reduce the amount of what you will have to discard later.
When you do have to get rid of an item, recycle it. Some great resources for recycling information are the National recycling coalition, http://nrc-recycle.org/ and Earth 911 http://earth911.org/.
Reusing items is a great way to help the environment. Often you can find great ideas at craft or home improvement websites on ways to turn something old into something new and useful! Also donating items to charity you no longer need is a great way to help others and help the environment. There are so many ways you can go green and help the environment, why not start today?

Google Investing $10M in Plug-Ins

Google's philanthropic arm, Google.org, is putting some of it's gigantic pile of cash behind plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). Right now, their initiatives include hacking Toyota Prius and Ford Escape hybrids to be plug-ins. Their Prius plug-ins are getting about 75 mpg, a good boost over the 40 mpg of regular Prius models.

Google plans to fund at least $10 million in PHEV projects and hopes to expand it's plug-in fleet to at least 100 vehicles. In addition to promoting the idea of PHEVs Google is also working on the technology behind vehicle to grid integration.

Created in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro - although not yet officially designated by the United Nations - World Ocean Day is an opportunity each year to celebrate our world ocean and our personal connection to the sea. The Ocean Project, working closely with the World Ocean Network, helps each year to coordinate events and activities with aquariums, zoos, museums, conservation organizations, universities, schools, businesses. Together with the World Ocean Network, we are also working to have the United Nations officially designate World Ocean Day as June 8th each year.

Tip o' the Day: Get The Most From Your Air Conditioner

ceiling fan There are a lot of small, easy things you can do to get the most out of your AC and lighten the energy load for savings in your energy bill.

Don't touch that thermostat
The magic number is 78 degrees. In most climates this is a comfortable temperature setting. Each degree higher than that will save you 6 to 8 percent in cooling costs. You can also set it a couple degrees higher when you're not home.

Lowering the set temperature won't cool your place any quicker and will only wind up costing you more energy. Keep it at a constant temperature. The AC unit will regulate itself as designed.

According to a UK newspaper article, some leaked emails revealed that the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) is considering recommending eating less meat as one of the "key environmental behaviour changes" needed to save the planet.

The article continues to explain that the agency acknowledges that consumption of animal protein has been highlighted as impacting the planet.

"Future Environment Agency communications are unlikely to ever suggest adopting a fully vegan lifestyle, but certainly encouraging people to examine their consumption of animal protein could be a key message."
