It's all in the Timing

By horsewoman | Sep. 27, 2007 | 0 Comments|post a comment

When you are selecting electrical fixtures for your home, you must process:

Is the light a pendant, a wall light, a close to the ceiling light, etc?
Is it an indoor or outdoor light?
Is it primarily decorative or does it really have to provide light for safety or work?
Is the glass clear or muted?
How well will it stand the test of time?
How many bulbs does it hold?
How hard will it be to change those bulbs? (You will have to change them, you know.)
What metal finishes are offered? Do these go with other metals in the room?
What style is the light?
Can your builder find a supplier for this fixture?
Can it be delivered on time?
And of course, after answering all these questions and finding the perfect fixture, you realize there is no way in hell you can afford it.

All around the world there are millions of individuals who only eat kosher food. Despite the large number of people who do eat it, there are even more who have no idea what kosher food is.

Kosher food is often termed a Jewish food. Jewish followers are the most common kosher food consumers, but they are not the only ones. There are individuals who eat kosher food simply because the food is often considered better than traditional food. Jewish law is used to determine exactly what food is kosher and what is not.

By dharmagypsy7 | Jun. 21, 2007 | 0 Comments|post a comment

I have been feeling somewhat guilty because I have been using plastic bags to pick up Abby's you know what, because plastic seeps toxic chemicals to the environment and takes forever to biodegrade... but now I don't have to feel that way at all. I found these wonderful Spike's business bags that is fully biodegradable in 45 days. It's made out of corn and so it's all natural. It comes in perfect size to slip in your hand and pick up and flip over and enough room to twist and tie. It's perfect and inexpensive. You get 40 bags for $5.95.. That comes out to $.15 per bag. Incredible!

Making Your Home Chemical Free

making your home chemical free CHEMICAL FREE TOILETRIES

As part of modern life, we are all being exposed to significantly higher levels of artificial chemicals than at any point in history. Over 300 man-made chemicals are found in the average person. Environmentalist and Eco-friendly store owner opens up about the fututure of green living

By dharmagypsy7 | Jun. 14, 2007 | 3 Comments|post a comment
Eco-friendly store owner and green blogger, Mark Caserta was kind enough to do an interview with me on the Environment and its future. Mark and his wife, Samantha Delman-Caserta, opened their Brooklyn store, 3R Living in Spring 2004. Initially I was impressed with the the web design of their online store (the former art student in me always looks for great design) but then I became more impressed Mark's knowledge of green living and his dedication to sustainable living.

What is the concept of the store and how was it created?

Chemical Free Mulching with newspaper

By greenlivinglady | May. 25, 2007 | 2 Comments|post a comment
A great way to recycle your newspaper and prevent weeds from taking over your garden...Lay approximately 10 sheets of newspaper down around the plants in your garden and cover with your favorite mulch (I use natural cedar mulch). If you don't live in a drought stricken area, you may want to water the mulch to help hold it down. Works great!

Greening Your Rooftop

By Mary | May. 15, 2007 | 2 Comments|post a comment

The Union of Concerned Scientists posted an interesting "greentip" today on "green" roofs.  The rage these days, and the first of two options they presented, was literally going green on your roof -- covering it with soil and growing grass, flowers, shrubs (perhaps even vegetables!).  Benefits can include lower energy costs, providing shelter for wildlife (I couldn't help but think of the rats that got into our attic not too long ago...), and (counterintuitive to me) a longer lasting roof (because you shelter it from the elements).  Of course, you'd need a strong, well supported roof to do that.  I have a feeling most conventionally built roofs wouldn't last a day under that kind of weight.  I looked up in our own attic at the trestle roof we've got.... hardly any support at all.  UCS's estimated costs for a green roof:  $10-$25 per square foot including installation.  Check out Green Roofs for Healthy Cities' website for more and some cool photos of what your roof could look like.
