I found this funny rel="nofollow" target="_blank">parody of Lunesta commercials on Google video. It features Will Ferrell, a favorite of mine, fending of Lunesta's floating, then attacking butterfly.

Sleeping problems are no laughing matter, however, and Americans fight with insomina is generating big $$ for Big Pharma:

  • Sepracor, which distributes Lunestra, reportedly spent about $200 million last year on promoting their magic sleep pill
  • Lunestra competitor Ambien reportedly spending about $100 million in advertising.

Tired of Insomnia? Tired of insomnia? Fortunately, there are alternatives to counting sheep to help you get a healthy nights sleep. According to research or other evidence, the following self-care steps may be helpful:

What you need to know

1. Create a restful place to sleep: Remove or block noise, light, and other distractions, and make sure your mattress is comfortable for you

2. Cut coffee and other stimulants: Eliminate or cut down on drinks and foods that have caffeine, ephedra, or pseudoephedrine; work with your doctor to find alternatives if you take medication with any of these ingredients

3. Learn to relax: Relaxation tapes and other self-help tools or a counselor experienced in treating insomnia can help you let go of tension

4. Check out valerian: To fall asleep quicker and enjoy deeper sleep quality, take 300 to 600 mg of a concentrated root extract 30 minutes before bedtime, with or without other relaxing herbs such as lemon balm and passion flower

5. Try melatonin: Take 0.5 to 3.0 mg one to two hours before bedtime to help reset your bodys biological clock

These recommendations are not comprehensive and are not intended to replace the advice of your doctor or pharmacist. Continue reading the full insomnia article for more in-depth, fully-referenced information on medicines, vitamins, herbs, and dietary and lifestyle changes that may be helpful.

Biofeedback

Biofeedback training uses simple electronic devices to measure and report information about a person’s biological system. Biofeedback training can improve health by teaching a person to consciously regulate bodily functions that are normally unconscious, such as heart rate, breathing, and blood pressure. Biofeedback training is particularly useful in treating health conditions where psychological factors are present. This form of healthcare is used for pain relief, stress reduction, insomnia, headache treatment, and muscle injuries.
