Attention and Intention, Dr. Tiller from "What the Bleep"

Many of us saw the movie, “What the Bleep,” and were intrigued by the idea that our attention and intention can influence reality.  One of the scientists in the film, Dr. William Tiller, a prior materials science researcher at Stanford University, has researched what he calls psychoenergetic science.  This past weekend I had to opportunity to see Dr. Tiller speak in Marin County, California on his research.  I have also read through two of his five books presenting his theories and research.

The basis of his research is expanding the traditional relationship of mass and energy to also include information and consciousness.  Energy is directly related to entropy, or the disorder of a system.  Therefore, Tiller reasons, information decreases entropy, indirectly affecting energy in a system.  As we increase consciousness, we have the power to increase and organize information, manifesting energy that is capable of affecting physical reality.

One example of this is found in biofeedback, or conscious control over physiological activity.  In one study, Stewart Wolf studied several pregnant women dealing with nausea.  He claimed to be giving them the newest, best drug to decrease nausea.  Sure enough, the women felt completely relieved of all of their symptoms.  They had no idea that what they were really taking was ipecac- the same drug that patients are given to induce vomiting!

One company, Heartmath, has produced a variety of biofeedback equipment.  The whole idea is that from heart beat to beat there are small variations.  These can be measured and displayed on a screen.  Then, through watching the screen and consciously relaxing and focusing on the heart, we can decrease this variation to synchronize the beats.  After much practice, you can gain the skills to practice this without the equipment.  In experiments, a beaker with suspended DNA was placed in front of these people, and they were able to unwind and rewind the DNA with simply their intention.

Dr. Tiller did several experiments of his own.  In one of my favorite studies, he attached electrodes to the earlobe of healer sitting in the middle of a room with four copper walls.  The electrodes picked up negative charges between -30 to -300mV, as well as the copper walls picked up -1 to -5 volt pulses.  He concluded that a healer's intention to heal can manifest ultimately as large, observable electric voltage pulses in physical reality.  An interesting study from Russia also focuses on the energy of healers.  The difference in voltage was measured from the healers left hand to right hand, and a very low resistance was measured.  When measuring their patients, a very high resistance and voltage difference was found.  After a session/ patient-healer interaction the healer picked up some of this unevenness, and the patient became more normalized and equal in electric levels.  Tiller says that this is why healers must make sure to allow themselves to recuperate sufficiently between patients.

Dr. Tiller did several more experiments showing how the intention of sufficiently developed people could make a thermodynamic change in physical reality.  Experiments included changing the pH of water in a directed way, increasing in vitro thermodynamic activity of alkaline phosphatase, a liver enzyme, and increased the in vitro ratio of ATP/ADP in fruit fly larvae.  He would have meditators focus their attention into a IIED- intention imprinted electrical device- or basically a faraday cage (which blocks out all electromagnetic fields) containing an oscillator, diodes, LED, memory stick and switch.  Then, the device would be sent to various locations throughout the world where the experiment would be performed.

One of the crucial factors was that the meditators placing the intention were coherent.  This is one thing that Dr. Tiller believes needs to be developed in the world in order to manifest our intentions.  Dr. Tiller even suggested that we could decrease the effects of global warming if we could produce internationally coherent intentions.  Also, he found that the IIED was not carrying electromagnetic energy but rather produced a type of conditioned space.  Dr. Tiller hypothesizes this conditioned space is composed of organized deltrons, which are small particles that interact with both electric particles and magnetic particles and can travel faster or slower than the speed of light.  Deltrons are not limited to space or time, which allows for distance healing through intentions.  Through several experiments, Dr. Tiller showed that intention would only manifest itself in physical reality in these conditioned spaces- conditioned that way through meditations, yoga, or qi gong, to name a few ways.  Conditioning space is especially important for healers- who depend on energy transfers to treat their patients.

Dr. Tiller definitely pushes the limit of accepted reality up to this point.  His goal is to create a Copernican revolution, changing our whole concept of how energy and matter interact.  Conventional thought can’t be changed without us thinking outside of the box and searching for answers in completely different ways than we have up to this point.

great post...

thanks, Pauline, for a really interesting post about a dense field that challenges fundamental notions about reality. Here's a video excerpt from "What the Bleep" which gives an illustrative overview of some of Teller's concepts.
