Lush: Handmade Soaps and Natural Cosmetics

By dharmagypsy7 | Jun. 25, 2007 | 0 Comments|post a comment

I was walking down Midtown Manhattan and this store caught my eye. I have walked by it countless times but somehow it made an impression on me that day. I walked in and immediately liked the feel of it. It felt very Organic and Natural... and the products were not packaged flawlessly like some stores I go into. Everything felt raw and I felt like you can manage the products without some sales clerk breathing down your neck. I asked the sales girl if the products were cruelty free and she happily whipped out the brochure and gave it to me. Then she touted the company as not only being cruelty free but all the products were handmade. So I browsed and shopped and this superstar sales girl sold about $150 worth of stuff to me.

Most of the products were minimumally packaged and smelled very fresh. I especially loved the Coconut Shampoo Bar that eliminated the plastic packaging. You basically cut off the piece you wanted to use and lather it up and put it in your hair. Whenever I smelled it; it reminded me of the days I spent in Miami basking under the sun. (very happy days in my life)

The Euroma Water Facial Toner is an excellent choice for sensitive skin. I got that along with Angels on Bare Skin. Everything cleaned marvelously but also didn't strip away the little moisture I have on my skin (I have dry skin and most products tend to dry it out)

After awhile though, I began to worry that things would go bad. Since there isn't any preservatives and the products seemed a little "too fresh" so my suggestion is to buy the amount you are going to use in about a month. The packaging also became an issue for me. The little cartons did nothing to keep the water out from the products. They do offer a silver tins where you can keep your products and in hindsight I should have gotten them.

I am not sure I would purchase Lush Products again. To me, it was a bit too Natural and Hippyish. But I think their products are really great and would be beneficial to people who are looking to buy the freshest products out there.

Here's the store locations around the US but they have stores all around the world.
