In addition to saving energy, you can save $ too! CFLs are great. I have switched my incandescent bulbs to the spirals, and I am also using CFL floodlights. Here is a link to an online savings calculator; you can see the energy and money savings of switching to CFLs - http://www.nvisioncfl.com/savings-calcul... It also shows you the formula it uses to calculate the savings.
Beth it isn't necessarily the brand of CFL, but rather the color temperature of the bulb. The lower the color temperature, the more yellowish-white the color of the light. For a brighter CFL, try something with a higher color temperature.
This gives you the color temps and describes them
and http://www.nvisioncfl.com/color-temperature.aspx
and this link shows you the actual temperature ranges

Hope this helps!
I LOVE the idea of CFLs, and I have changed some of the lightbulbs in my apartment already. But they have a weird glow and don't give off as much light as my regular lightbulbs. Do you have any recommendations for CFL brands that don't give off this weird glow?
