hybrid cars and envirmental tolls

i question what are the effects of the batteries used by hybrid cars once they are no longer useful. what are the envirmental impacts of disposing of the batteries and how does that measure up to driving a fuel efficient car like a toyota echo?

Vote, Invironment

You could tell how much you protect the invironment by taking your bike versus your car or the difference between a hybrid/diesel car versus gasolin.

What effect am I having??

The psychological barrier I have to becoming a fully paid-up member of the eco-friendly society, is that it's virtually impossible for me to measure the effect of my actions. Sure, I know that if I buy a hybrid car, then I'm avoiding depositing x tons of greenhouse gas into the atmosphere, but it's just a number...what does it really mean? I liken it a little to donating to charity. I know that my donation is helping a particular cause, but only because someone tells me so. Would I make more of an effort to help the environment if I could see tangible outcomes for my efforts...perhaps. I realise that this is a particularly selfish standpoint, and I'm willing to let myself be educated by the naturalpath website..... ;o)
